Crews Cleaning Up After Accident Involving Train, Tractor Trailer In Blawnox

BLAWNOX, Pa. (KDKA) -- A train crashed into a tractor trailer in Blawnox Tuesday, leaving substantial damage in its wake.

A witness says the driver of a tractor trailer backed across the tracks on Center Avenue, hoping to turn down a street on the other side. When he couldn't turn, he decided to drive back across the tracks.

That's when the arms came down from the track, a witness says. Hearing the train, the driver floored it to get the cab off the tracks.

However, the train sheared off the back of the rig and took down wires. Power was out in multiple homes.

The tractor trailer had 47,000 pounds of steel on it. It ended up taking out a car, flipping it into the air and pushing it through a structure to buildings down, another witness says.

Thankfully, one was injured. Now the focus will turn to cleaning up.
