Bishop Zubik Greets Students At New Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School
CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- It's been an exciting day for students of Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School.
Not only was it the first day of school, today also marked the opening of the brand new school building in Cranberry Township.
As nearly 300 students made their way inside Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School, it was a new day, a new school year and a new building.
The $70 million, 181,000-square foot, brand new high school is a long way from the old school in Troy Hill that was built in 1939.
Pittsburgh Catholic Diocese Bishop David Zubik was on hand to greet the students, too.
Vince LeGrande, a senior and standout basketball player, attended the old high school. He's impressed with the new building and impressed by the morning greeter.
"It's pretty honorable for me, the first day of school... Bishop Zubik, pretty great," said LeGrande.
This is the first Catholic high school in Butler County. Bishop Zubik calls it a historic day.
"This school has been a dream for decades, but we have worked very hard over the course of the last couple years, just wanted the students who are here to know that I am behind them, supporting this new day in their lives," said Bishop Zubik.
With the impressive morning greeting behind them, it was then about getting down to business.
One student put it best when she said, "this is just awesome."
