Bike Pittsburgh Looking For Drivers Blocking Bike Lanes

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Volunteers with Bike Pittsburgh will be looking out for drivers who are blocking bike lanes.

The volunteers will be out Wednesday morning, lunch and evening to monitor bike lanes and look for vehicles that are illegally parked there.

The project, Data-Protected Bike Lane, uses an app called "How's My Driving" to record any drivers illegally parked in bike lanes and on sidewalks.

They'll be tracking Penn Avenue and Third Avenue downtown, Forbes Avenue in Oakland and Allegheny Circle on the North Side.

Bike Pittsburgh's Advocacy Director, Eric Boerer says, "Everyday people illegally park in the bike lanes, causing people riding bicycles to enter into moving traffic. We're trying to understand the extent of this problem and advocate for solutions."

More than 70 people are volunteering for this patrol.

It will be held on Wednesday from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., from Noon until 1:00 p.m., and from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
