Christmas Light Show Coming To Big Butler Fair

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A multitude of lights dance to the music, in displays dreamed up by a company from Bristol, Tenn.

Shadrack's Christmas Wonderland is big in the south. But this season, they're heading north, to the Big Butler Fairgrounds.

"In a couple of weeks they'll be here," says Jack Cohen, president of the Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau. "And it well take them a couple of months to have this display built. It's a big job."

He says millions of of LED lights will border 3 miles of road. "The show's going to have so many different places to look at and things to see that you want to go slow, so you can see the whole thing."

He added that a county board member discovered the light show on a visit to Asheville, N.C.

"And we called them, and invited them to come visit with us. And they did. We showed them the fairgrounds. We took them through the community, and showed them all the people that were here, and they thought, this would be a lot of fun."

The Shadrack company foots the bill, from lighting to concessions. But they expect to make that back, and more. They're hoping for 100,000 visitors from Pittsburgh, Cleveland and other population centers.

"We're going to use those trees for our lighting," Cohen says, as we enter the campground area. Then we'll hang all kind of different lights all around this whole campground area."

The Butler County lights show opens the Friday before Thanksgiving, and continues through January third.

"The fun part," Cohen concludes, "is at the end of it you'll find Santa Claus."
