Belle Vernon Area School District Teachers Set To Strike

BELLE VERNON (KDKA) -- The new school year begins Monday for students in the Belle Vernon Area School District, but when students will return for their second day of school is anybody's guess.

That's because Belle Vernon teachers have announced that they will go on strike starting Tuesday.

The teachers voted in May to authorize the strike.

Their union says they've been working without a contract for more than 400 days.

The teachers say they offered concessions concerning salaries and the cost of health care.

However, the two sides could not reach an agreement.
