Beaver Falls Municipal Authority lifts boil water advisory

8,000 Beaver County residents under boil water advisory

UPDATE: The boil water advisory was lifted on Thursday.

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (KDKA) - Nearly 8,000 Beaver County residents are under a boil water advisory, Beaver Falls Municipal Authority General Manager Jim Riggio said.

The Big Beaver Falls Area School District staff along with others went to the Beaver Falls Municipal Authority early Monday morning where two water buffaloes are available for residents to fill up their own containers.

"It's definitely very inconvenient for the people here, for me as a single dad raising six kids," said Jarvis Boudreaux, who lives in Beaver Falls. "I have to make sure they have bottled water. I can't sit up there and forget that part because everyone needs water."

Riggio also recommends residents use bottled water or do this: "They have to boil the water for at least a minute, then they set it aside and then it can chill and then they can drink it."

Riggio said there was a 24-inch water line break at the intersection of 10th Avenue and 26th Street in Beaver Falls Monday afternoon. Now the Upper Beaver Valley area, including Beaver Falls, Chippewa, Eastvale, White Township and Patterson Heights, are under the advisory.

"There's a required set of sampling we need to do in order to get the advisory lifted, so it's expected to probably be 24 to 48 hours," said Riggio, who hopes to lift the advisory by Thursday.

In the meantime, the Big Beaver Falls Area School District is providing students and staff with bottled water. They also encourage students to bring their own water bottles to school.
