2 Brothers In Baldwin Accused Of Attacking Paramedics; 3rd Brother Charged With Arson

BALDWIN (KDKA) -- For three local brothers, it has been kind of an unbelievable few days.

Their father died, for starters, but now two of the brothers are charged with assaulting the medics who came to help their dad, while the third brother is facing charges following a Thursday house fire in Baldwin.

Allegheny police said detectives are investigating the Thursday fire on the 200 block of Revo Road in Baldwin as arson. Through eyewitness accounts, they believe 46-year-old Vincent Chalmers started it. He now faces arson charges, pending extradition from Meadville, where police arrested him.

But the day before, police charged Vincent's brothers, claiming the two roughed up medics at a different scene.

According to court papers, around midnight on Wednesday, officers and medics responded for a person in respiratory distress. It turns out the preson was the siblings' father, Robert Chalmers.

According to the criminal complaint, medics were giving Robert CPR when officers arrived to the brothers, Phillip and Paul Chalmers, screaming at the medics. Police allege the two brothers assaulted five of the responding medics.

The brothers face five counts of aggravated assault.

At the hospital, where Robert was pronounced dead, the brothers threw a traffic cone through the window of a Baldwin EMS vehicle, according to court paperwork. They face additional charges for that.

Paul and Philip have preliminary hearings in June.
