Authorities ID Body Found In Ohio River As That Of Missing Man

INDUSTRY (KDKA) -- The Beaver County Coroner's Office has positively identified the body found in the Ohio River in Beaver County earlier this week as that of a missing man.

Police and dive crews were called to the Montgomery Lock and Dam in Potter Township, near Industry around 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

They were able to pull the body from the river just before 9 p.m.

Officials had believed it was the man who was swept away in the Ohio River in Monaca last week.

On July 1, 22-year-old Jason Moore was swimming in the river with a 17-year-old. Both of them got trapped in the water. Rescue crews were able to pull the teen to safety, but Moore was pulled under the surface of the water and never came back up.

Water rescue crews searched the night of July 1 and then again on July 2, but they could not find Moore.

"It's been tragic for the family," said Monaca Police Chief William Petures. "We just wanted to do what's best for them to see if we can put every effort forward to be able to get their boy back home."

Friends and family say Moore frequently swam in the pier area of the Ohio River in Monaca. They said he was a strong swimmer who loved the outdoors.
