Audubon Society: No Hays Eaglets In 2015
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- After successfully raising three eaglets last year, the bald eagle pair nesting in the city's Hays section will unfortunately not be welcoming any little eagles this year.
According to the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania, the second egg - like the first - is not viable.
The mother eagle was spotted on Friday morning removing a large piece of egg from the nest.
Officials with the Audubon Society say they reviewed hours of footage of the nest and of the parents' behavior to be sure.

Earlier this month, the eagles lost their other egg when it cracked.
The eggs first appeared in the nest last month, on Feb. 17 and Feb. 21.
The Hays eagles produced an eaglet two years ago and three more last year.
However, there is some positive news. The bald eagles nesting in Harmar Township are still incubating at least one egg, the Audubon Society says.
They will be monitoring that nest closely for indications of hatching.
