Armstrong County Man Charged With Starting Fire Inside Local Walmart

EAST FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - A 21-year-old man has been charged with intentionally setting a fire inside an Armstrong County Walmart store.

The fire was set inside the clothing area of the Walmart in East Franklin Township around 8:45 p.m. on Sunday.

State police said Tanner Stroupe set the clothing display on fire.

Employees at the store were able to contain the fire and extinguish it before fire crews got on the scene.

The fire caused an estimated $10,000 in damage. It also forced an employee at the store to be taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Stroupe, who is from Kittanning, has been charged with arson, theft by unlawful taking, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and risking a catastrophe.

He is being held in the Armstrong County Jail.
