Argument Sparks Gunfire In Garfield, One Man Arrested

GARFIELD (KDKA) - A man is behind bars this morning, accused of firing a shot inside his father's home.

Police say just before 8 p.m. on Thursday, they were called to the 4900 block of Dearborn Street in Garfield.

It was inside the  home, where police say 23-year-old Joseph Fisher Jr. got into an argument with another man.

According to witnesses, Fisher Jr. fired a shot toward the doorway while four people were in the living room.

Police report that Fisher Jr. ran down the street, but didn't go far. While police responded and began searching the neighborhood and talking with witnesses, he allegedly called his father, who put the phone on speaker.

Detectives were able to hear Fisher when he allegedly said, "I can't believe you called the cops on me. I should have done more. I should have shot that old man."

His father said he had to call 911 and Fisher Jr. responded, allegedly saying, "Those punk [expletive] cops couldn't find me. I was watching them through the window. I could have shot them all."

He allegedly admitted that he was hiding out at his grandmother's home on the same street - just a few houses down.

Police set up a perimeter and he eventually surrendered without incident. Police found a loaded 9mm handgun hidden in a sock on the third floor of the home. They also found a small amount of marijuana.

Fisher Jr. has been charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and possessing a firearm without a license. Due to previous convictions, he was not allowed to possess a firearm.

There is no word on what sparked the argument.
