PITTSBURGH (KDKA/CBS) -- There was something missing at Apple Stores across the Pittsburgh area for the Friday release of the iPhone 8 – a big line of eager fans.

Previous releases of the iPhone attracted hundreds of Apple fans waiting in the early morning hours at several stores.

The Apple Store has a ticketing system, but that never stopped eager iPhone fans from camping out overnight.

But on Friday morning, there were just a handful of people outside the Shadyside Apple store.

The scene was the same at the Verizon store on McKnight Road in the North Hills. Only two customers showed up before it opened.

"I wasn't expecting a lot, but I was told to get here before 8, so here I am," said customer McKenzie Conley.

"I was thinking that I was going to be faced with, you know, a long line getting in here, but apparently, only one other person, which is exciting," added Derek Wagner, of Wexford.

The scene was the same around the globe, like in Sydney, Australia and in China.

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus touts new features like wireless charging, new camera features, and a faster processor.

But the lack of a line may be due to more people waiting for the November release of the iPhone X, which has a more drastic redesign. However, it comes with a hefty price tag.

At $999, it's a lot to spend for some consumers.

"I use my phone for basic things, so I don't think the benefits of the phone would be worth what I'd be paying for it," said Wagner.

I have the 6 and I was due for an upgrade, so I figured why not get the 8 because the 10 was just really expensive," added Conley.

The updated Apple Watch and Apple TV also went on sale Friday.
