Apparent Murder-Suicide In Washington County Under Investigation

BENTLEYVILLE (KDKA) - State police are investigating, after a Washington County couple was found dead inside their home.

Police were called to the home of Carmine and Caryn Verno on Lakeview Drive in Bentletyville for a welfare check.

A caregiver called police, worried that she hadn't seen or heard from the couple for a couple days.

When police went inside, they found both of them dead from gunshot wounds to the head.

"The female suffered a fatal wound from one gunshot, and the male also died of a gunshot wound. The weapon was found in the house that matched the type of wound that was inflicted upon both victims," State Police Trooper Matthew Jardine said.

Police believe Carmine Verno shot his wife, then killed himself.

Washington County Coroner's report says it appears to be a murder-suicide, but the manner of death is still under investigation.

The coroner believes they both died around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Vernos owned CarVern Productions located on the same road as their house.
