Police Make Arrest Butler Co. In Fentanyl-Laced Heroin Death

BUTLER, Pa. (KDKA) – Four months after a woman died from an overdose of fentanyl-laced heroin in Butler County, police have arrested the man who allegedly gave it to her.

Her death was one of many in the area tied to heroin that was stamped with the label "Theraflu."

It was back on Feb. 2, inside a house on a private road in Worth Township, when a mother found her 21-year-old daughter on the bathroom floor.

Brittany Lee Hays had overdosed on stamped bags of heroin labeled, "Theraflu."

Officials said "Theraflu" is a mixture of fentanyl and heroin. Paramedics told state police a syringe, spoons and two empty heroin bags were on the floor beside Hays.

Pennsylvania State Trooper Dan Kesten released more details from the coroner's report.

"The coroner's report shows that the mixture of fentanyl and heroin, both chemicals, were found in her body," said Kesten.

It was Hays' mother who told state police she checked her daughter's phone and saw a message from Shayne Emery telling Hays in a text that "he got the 'Theraflu.'"

"On June 19, which was yesterday, Shayne Emery was arrested for providing the drugs to Hays," said Kesten.

Emery is being housed at the Butler County Prison $100,000 bond.

State police say he and Hays were dating and that he admitted to giving her the heroin.
