Annual Christmas Light Display Raises Money For Local Charities

CLINTON (KDKA) - For more than two decades, a small local light show has entertained thousands near Pittsburgh International Airport.

A handful of volunteers bring Christmas to light each December. These volunteers make no bones about the fact that this is a celebration with Christmas lights.

"Full story of Christmas from the nativity clear through to the cross, and we have everything in between too," Patricia Faux said.

The group of volunteers rents Clinton Park for the month of December. Every day, they open at 5 p.m. and cars wind their way through the mile of lights until 10 p.m. Each carload is just $10 with money going to charities like the food bank or perhaps the library.

"Meals on wheels and the fire department get a little of it. It all goes, primarily, local," Lloyd Faux said.

The Faux family is among the many volunteers who give countless hours year after year to share the vision of the original founder.

"He said why can't we light up this part for the glory of God with all the community helping, you know? And that's how it got started. We had a meeting and invited us to come and ended up he's the treasurer and I'm just the gopher," Patricia said.

In addition to the lights, there are special events, including hay rides, carolers and a live nativity.

"After we get done and we see how our finances are, then we sit down with a group -- usually of about ten people there -- and we kind of split it up then," Lloyd said.

"We do it for the glory of God, and we hope that everybody gets the message as they go through too," Patricia said.

This year's celebration will go through Jan. 3.
