Allegheny Building Closer To Reopening After Macy's Fire

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The Allegheny Building has been closed for about a month due to a fire at the former Macy's building next door.

However, that could change next week.

On July 30, a six-alarm fire broke out at the former Macy's building downtown. The fire is believed to have started in an electrical vault in the basement and spread through an elevator shaft.

The fire knocked out power to the Allegheny Building next door. Tenants have not been allowed back in since.

The good news is that water and air conditioning are expected to be restored on Monday.

A fire pump will also be tested on Monday. If it passes, tenants could be allowed to move back in within a few days.
