All Eyes On Washington As PONY League World Series Opens

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - The World's eyes will be watching as the PONY League World Series returns Aug. 8-13 at Lew Hayes Field in Washington, Pa.

PONY League World Series President Bob Gregg took time to join Andrew Fillipponi to preview this exciting event.

"This is the 52nd overall World Series and PONY League Baseball and Softball was founded here in Washington in 1951. Since then, all but 11 years it has been here, including the last 31 years," Gregg said. "It's a great game that includes all aspects of the game."

The International Championship features some of the best 13-14-year-old baseball players and teams in the country, including Chinese Taipei, Levittown, Puerto Rico, Los Mochis, Mexico and Prague, Czech Republic. The United States teams will feature four Zone Champions, plus one local champion and the host team from Washington.

The series will be a two-bracket, double-elimination tournament with the championship game being aired on Pittsburgh's CW on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 7:30 p.m.

The series will also feature some special events including "The Hobbs Sisters" on Saturday, Aug. 9, David Wilson on Sunday, Aug. 10, Mascot and Fireworks Night on Monday, Aug. 11 and Military Appreciation Night and a performance from Scott Blasey of The Clarks on Tuesday, Aug. 12.
