ALCOSAN Holding Public Hearing About Customer Assistance Program

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Sewage rates are going to increase for the entire Allegheny County Sanitary Authority (ALCOSAN) service area, so ALCOSAN wants to provide citizens with the chance to attend a public hearing about a new program.

Federal and state laws require Pittsburgh to invest in improving the regional wastewater collection and treatment system. Without public money available, however, the improvements will be paid for by raising sewage bills.

ALCOSAN is developing a Customer Assistance Program (CAP) to assist low income ratepayers, and they are holding a free and open public hearing about the program.

The hearing will take place Monday, November 16 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Allegheny County Courthouse on the 4th floor Gold Room. The courthouse is located at 436 Grant Street. Pre-registration is not required.
