Agency That Monitors City's Finances To Be Audited

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A forensic audit of the agency that monitors the City of Pittsburgh's finances will be conducted after a number of concerns were raised about missing expenditure receipts.

Auditor General Eugene DePasquale issued a statement today stating that his staff would be conducting a forensic audit of the Pittsburgh Intergovernmental Cooperation Authority (ICA). This announcement follows comments from local officials, including Mayor Bill Peduto and Pennsylvania State Senators Jay Costa and Wayne Fontana, about problems with the ICA.

According to a report from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, 92 percent of the ICA's receipts for expenditures between 2010 and 2016 have been destroyed or are missing.

"After a careful consideration, I have directed my staff to conduct a forensic audit of the financial records of the ICA," DePasquale said in a statement. "The allegations made against the ICA's executive director, if true, are completely unacceptable. I want to get to the bottom of this issue so that city leaders and the ICA can focus on continuing to make Pittsburgh even better."

The city sued the ICA in the fall, saying that the agency was unlawfully withholding millions of dollars in gaming money.
