93-7 The Fan & Pirates Hold Youth Baseball Town Hall

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Pirates and 93.7 the Fan held a town hall meeting hoping to obtain some solutions to the growing trend of the lack of participation in baseball by today's children.

Held inside PNC Park's Lexus Club, a panel of nine including Pirates President Frank Coonelly and hosted by KDKA's Larry Richert looked for action items to take away from this meeting.

Coonelly noted it's not just baseball that is having an issue with kids participating.

Coonelly even noted a possible solution could be shorter games for younger children with a focus on some cool and fun drills following the shortened game.

"We can't say this is a really hard problem, we don't know how to solve it overnight, we have to take action steps today to start to get to the issue," Coonelly said.

University of Pittsburgh baseball coach Joe Jordano says baseball is an extremely challenging game for young kids and sometimes it can be discouraging for them.

Jordano also said that he is willing at any time to help provide assistance in whatever capacity to help solve the problems.
