93.7 The Fan High School Football Preview 2016 Class 3A: Quaker Valley

Quaker Valley
Beaver Valley Conference

The Quakers were a promising 6-4 last season but failed to make the playoffs so they will look to take another step forward and get to the postseason.

But it won't be easy and not because the Quakers aren't capable of competing at that level.

It is just that they are in such a tough conference that they are likely going to have to pull at least one upset in order to qualify for the playoffs as competition for spots in the Beaver Valley should be stiff.

The one big advantage Quaker Valley has is that the Quakers are one of the teams that have an established quarterback and that is always a good place to start when building a playoff team.

Junior Amos Luptak threw for 1,972 yards and 21 touchdowns last year and he was also the team's leading rusher, so where he goes, the team is likely to go as well.

The Quakers will need to rebuild the receiving corps some, though, as the three leading receivers have graduated but there are plenty of younger players in the program who are capable of stepping into that role.

The key will be on the defensive side of the ball, where head coach John Tortorea has some rebuilding to do, especially in the back seven.
