9 Local Towns Make "Safest Cities In America" List

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – It may be no surprise here, but many local towns are considered to be some of the safest in the country.

Nine Pittsburgh-area towns have made it on a list of "100 Safest Cities in America."

The list, put out by Safewise.com, includes 17 towns across the state, but these are the nine local places that made it, including their rank:

5. South Park
21. Franklin Park
28. Penn Township
53. South Fayette
54. Adams Township
61. Peters Township
80. Cecil Township
94. Upper St. Clair
100. Murrysville

According to Safewise, the No. 1 safest city is Hibbing Minnesota with a population of 16,267 and 0.25 per 1,000 violent crimes. Shortly behind it at No. 2 is Upper Providence Township in Pennsylvania, located outside of Philadelphia.
