69-Year-Old Man Charged In Auto Shop Shooting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A Stanton Heights man has been charged in a shooting that left another man in critical condition.

Harold Dewitt Toomer II, 69, has been charged with a shooting that took place Monday at Joe's Automotive Repair on Butler Street in Stanton Heights.

The victim of the shooting was reportedly working at the shop when Toomer brought his vehicle in to be fixed. A young black man with short hair, mustache and a goatee was riding in the passenger seat.

The victim told officers that he and Toomer exchanged words before the victim slammed his hands on the roof of Toomer's car. That is when Toomer's passenger allegedly shot the victim in the chest.

The victim was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in critical condition.

Toomer is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, conspiracy and other counts. He is held in Allegheny County Jail on $250,000 bond.

Police say they are still looking for the man who pulled the trigger.

The gunman was described to police as between 15-17, or possibly in his 20s, wearing checkered shorts and a gray V-neck shirt.
