6 Children Hurt In Parkway East Crash

EDGEWOOD (KDKA) -- Eight people were hurt, including six children, in a crash Thursday afternoon on the Parkway East.

A white mini-van slammed through a guide rail and tipped over on the inbound side of the road around noon.

Traffic on the Parkway East was backed up for hours.

One of those injured kids remains in Children's Hospital.

The others were treated and released.

There were two cars involved - one, a mini-van with a mother behind the wheel.

Police aren't sure what caused the accident, but they do know it's lucky there weren't any serious injuries.

"The mini-van, which was in the left lane going inbound, for unknown reasons hit the jersey barrier, the concrete barrier, flipped the vehicle over," said Trooper Robin Mungo, of the Pennsylvania State Police. "It continued to roll over a hillside just prior to the Edgewood exit ramp."

State police are investigating the potential causes of the crash.
