4 Slippery Rock Students, Including 2 Football Players, Charged In Robbery & Banned From Campus

SLIPPERY ROCK (KDKA) -- Four Slippery Rock University students, including two football players, are facing charges in connection with an armed robbery off campus.

The two football players have been kicked off the team for their alleged involvement.

State Police arrested the two football players, 21-year-old Julian Durden from McKees Rocks and 23-year-old Calvin Anderson from Johnstown immediately after practice.

They're among the four students accused of forcing their way into an apartment at the Grove apartment complex, which is off campus, and robbing the occupant at gunpoint.

"They assaulted the individual, they threatened him, brandished a firearm and they stole some of his items - approximately $200 in cash, a cell phone and took some keys – then they fled the area," said Trooper Dan Kesten, of Pennsylvania State Police.

Police say the victim is an acquaintance and was able to identify his assailants.

Authorities say Durden and Anderson brought some of the stolen items to the practice facility.

"A search warrant was issued and executed on the lockers inside the locker room. There was some cash that was recovered from one of the lockers," said Trooper Kesten.

University officials say they are shocked and disappointed by the arrests. Durden, a star running back, and Anderson, a defensive back, were kicked off the team permanently.

Their dismissal comes one day before Slippery Rock hosts its first playoff game since 1999.

"At a time when the team should really be celebrating their successes, it's really unfortunate and sad that the actions of two individuals in an isolated incident is going to take some of the steam away from the guys that have been working so hard here," said Slippery Rock Athletic Communication Director Jon Holtz.

The other students charged in the robbery are 22-year-old Robert Brown from Pittsburgh and 23-year-old Quantrell Jones from Johnstown.

Brown was arrested after police stopped his car. Jones turned himself into campus police today.

"Currently, all four of them have been banned from the campus," Trooper Kesten said.
