3 Injured In Hempfield Twp. Head-On Crash

HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Three people were injured in a head-on crash Wednesday night in Westmoreland County.

The accident happened just before 7 p.m. on Arona Road at Camry Drive in Hempfield Township.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were all called to the scene.

Authorities say a Nissan Xterra and Chevy pickup truck collided on the curvy, wet road.

Officials say the crash may have been weather-related, but there's been no final determination.

"They collided for some reason here, we're not sure right now. We ended up helping EMS extricate the patients out of the vehicle, they weren't entrapped but extracted them out of the Nissan," said Adamsburg Fire Chief Donald Thoma. "The gentleman in the pickup was already out, walking around. It was raining out, the roads didn't seem to be slippery, but it was raining out pretty good, had some water out on the roadway, but I can't tell you if that caused the accident or not."

The three people who were injured were conscious at the scene and taken to Forbes Hospital to be checked over.

There's no word on their conditions, but their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Neighbors say this stretch of road has had its fair share of accidents over the years. The fire chief said the same thing, especially at night since the road is not lit very well.

The road re-opened to traffic around 8:30 p.m.
