MCDONALD, Pa. (KDKA) -- Pennsylvania State Police are leading the investigation into what is believed to be a double murder-suicide in McDonald.

Two women and a man were found shot to death inside in a home along Valley Street around 8 p.m.

State police say James Garove, his girlfriend Christina Carr and her mother Suzanne Faingnaert were all shot to death.

They believe it was domestic-related, calling it a double murder-suicide, but wouldn't say who fired the gun.

The area surrounding the home was blocked off for hours.

It's difficult for Carol Gates to understand how and why something so violent happened right next door to her on Valley Street.

"Oh it's just awful, awful," said Gates.

Neighbors tell KDKA the couple had a young son, but state police say there were no children inside the home at the time of the shooting.

"I mean my husband talked to him yesterday about 3:30, 4 o'clock. And he came in and said, you know, 'he's a nice guy,'" said Gates. She added, "And I really liked her. She was a nice girl. You know, she'd do anything for you."

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating.
