2-Year-Old Left In Sub-Zero Temperatures For 7 Hours, Mom Arrested

THORNTON, Colo. (KDKA) -- Police say a two-year-old boy was left alone for hours over this weekend as a snowstorm rolled through Colorado.

CBS Denver reports the boy's mother, Nicole Carmon, 25, was arrested.

The child is now being treated for hypothermia and frostbite but is astoundingly expected to survive. Officers could not explain why Carmon left the child alone.

Police became aware of the situation when the mother called 911, saying she thought she was in an accident and couldn't find her child.

Officers found the car, a Ford Fusion, in a parking lot heavily covered with snow. When they brushed off the windows they saw the toddler sitting in the car.

Carmon faces a felony child abuse charge. Police say there are no indications that the vehicle was involved in a crash.
