Teen Suspect In Custody After Fatal Shooting In Leechburg

LEECHBURG (KDKA) -- An Armstrong County teenager is dead and another teen is facing charges after a shooting in Leechburg.

The victim was identified as 18-year-old Derrike Roppolo.

He was found with a gunshot wound to the chest in an upstairs apartment at 110 Basin Street.

He later died at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Harrison.

Late Tuesday night, State Police charged 17-year-old Todd Johnson of Kittanning Township, as an adult, with criminal homicide, robbery and aggravated assault.

Johnson was arrested following a police chase on Route 422.

A juvenile in the vehicle with Johnson when he was finally taken into custody was not immediately charged.

Armstrong County District Attorney Scott Andreassi told reporters, "Based on statements we received, there was no fight beforehand [in the apartment]. We're still taking statements to find out what motivated this incident."

Andreassi added, "We don't see crimes of violence like this, thankfully, very often in Armstrong County."

Just last week in Westmoreland County, a 16-year-old was charged in the shooting death of a classmate in the city of Jeannette, and then taking a photo of himself and the victim's body.

The picture was then sent to one of his friends.
