2 Killed When Car Crashes Into Bridge Support On 2nd Ave.
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Two men were killed in a fiery, one-vehicle crash that closed down 2nd Avenue overnight in the city.
Police say the accident happened around 2:15 a.m. as the car was headed outbound on 2nd Avenue at the 10th Street Bridge.
According to investigators, the Dodge Charger went out of control at an underpass and slammed into a bridge support. The vehicle then burst into flames.
The road has been reopened, but it was closed through the overnight hours as police investigated and cleared the scene.
The victims have not yet been identified, but the two men are believed to be from Westmoreland County.
"We were not able to get the individuals out. They were not able to get out of the vehicle on their own either, so they perished in the flames," said Pittsburgh Police spokesperson Sonya Toler.
By Saturday afternoon, some people began leaving flowers at the crash site.
Police continue to investigate.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office said they were using dental records to identify the men because they were badly burned in the crash.
On Monday, the Pittsburgh Tribune Review identified the victims as 28-year-old Gregory Scavincky of Irwin and 27-year-old Michael Depalma of Trafford.
