2 Golfers Hospitalized After Fight Over Rules

SOUTH UNION TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – Two golfers were taken to the hospital after a fight at a Fayette County golf course Sunday.

According to police, the incident happened at the Springdale Golf Course in South Union Township around 1 p.m.

An argument about water hazard rules started on the fifth hole. The debate "escalated quickly" in the fairway of the seventh hole.

"One of my pro shop employees got a call that someone got hurt on No. 7, got hit with a club, but thought it was a ball," said golf course owner Joseph Gudac Jr.

When he arrived, Gudac found a 43-year-old golfer who was seeing birdies of a different kind.

"Symptoms of a concussion, says he was hit with a club," Gudac said.

The argument turned physical and both golfers were taken to Uniontown Hospital for treatment.

Names of the golfers have not been released, but they are 43 and 63-years-old respectively.

It's still unclear who threw the first punch, or putter.

Meanwhile, Gudac, whose course is held in high regard and a nice place to play around, is sickened by the whole thing. He says he's not sure if the two men involved will ever be invited back after they allegedly teed off on each other.

"I gotta see what happened and evaluate it from there," he said. "It's something you don't need."
