16-Year-Old Facing Attempted Homicide Charges After Home Invasion

WEST MIFFLIN (KDKA) -- A 16-year-old male is facing attempted homicide and other charges after a home invasion in West Mifflin late Friday night.

The incident took place at a home in the 800 block of Oak Street just before 10:45 p.m. Friday.

According to a criminal complaint, a resident of the home called West Mifflin police to say that a male suspect with a gun had entered their home, fought with the residents and then fled.

The suspect was later identified as 16-year-old Tae'Shaun Caldwell.

A description of Caldwell was broadcast, and two security officers then saw him near the victims' home. He was carrying a pistol. Police say the security officers were able to secure the gun and detain him until West Mifflin police arrived. The criminal complaint says officers also found that he had a second gun and a box of ammunition in his pockets.

According to the complaint, one of the victims told police that he was in the basement when he walked around a corner and saw Caldwell standing there. The victim attempted to flee, but he says Caldwell caught him and hit him in the head with the gun.

Three other family members came to help, and the four fought Caldwell off and forced him outside. Caldwell fired one shot, but did not hit anyone. He then fled the scene. He was later caught by two security officers in the area.

Caldwell was placed in Allegheny County Jail.

In addition to attempted homicide, he is also facing burglary and simple assault charges.
