Police Investigate Two Homewood Shootings

HOMEWOOD (KDKA) – Within a time span of just 12 hours, Pittsburgh Police found themselves investigating two separate shootings in Homewood.

One of them marked the first murder for the department this year.

The first shooting happened in the 7100-block of Kedron Street.

It was right around 6:30 p.m. Thursday when witnesses reported hearing five to eight gunshots ring out.

When Pittsburgh Police got there they found 28-year-old Fredrick Douglas of Homewood lying on the curb.

His chest and leg were riddled with bullets.

Police and paramedics tried to revive him but it was too late he was pronounced dead before 7 p.m.

Close to 11 hours later, another shooting just down the road at the intersection of 5th Avenue and Kelly Street.

This time, police say a middle aged man was shot in his chest while he was outside the local methadone clinic.

One woman who knows the victim and uses the clinic says, there's typically a line outside close to 5:45 a.m. when the doors open.

"Someone just came up to my car when I pulled up and they told me that a friend of ours got shot, his name is Ryan, and he's a real nice guy, you know," said a friend of the victim. "I've rode him home, I've lent him money, you know, I try to help everybody out the way I can, because that's just the kind of person I am – and I just really hope he's OK."

The shooting victim was conscious and alert when he was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Pittsburgh Police believe the suspect in the second shooting left in a black car.

Officers don't know yet if the two shootings are connected.

In both of these shootings, Pittsburgh Police continue to search for the person responsible.
