Aspiring Rapper Killed In McKees Rocks Shooting
McKEES ROCKS (KDKA) -- A young man who authorities say was targeted in a shooting in the city a few days ago has died following another shooting Tuesday afternoon in McKees Rocks.
The gunfire rang out around 3 p.m. in the 700-block of Frederick Street.
Family members identified the victim as 22-year-old Michael Nolen, an aspiring rapper known as "Spike G."
Police quickly blocked off the one-way street to conduct their investigation.
According to Allegheny County Police Lt. Andrew Schurman, Nolen was shot multiple times as he was driving a silver SUV on Frederick Street.
The SUV then crashed into a parked car and a small fence after Nolen was hit. He stumbled out of the vehicle and fell onto the street, where it's believed he was shot again.
A firefighter who lives nearby attempted CPR, but Nolen could not be revived.
The victim's father, Calvin Nolen, told KDKA-TV's Ralph Iannotti that his son was a high honors student in school.
"I used to get calls from his teacher saying, 'I wish we had more [students] like him," Nolen said.
The victim's father added, "When he went to Perry High School, things started to change, but his heart was in the right place, and he pretty much stayed to himself."
Nolen speculated that perhaps "animosity and jealously" were factors in someone disliking his son.
Lt. Schurman said police were on the lookout for a dark gray 2015 Chrysler with the license plate GSC 8609, which eyewitnesses said they saw fleeing the area after the shooting. The vehicle has since been found.
A neighbor says her 12-year-old son was outside playing when the shooting happened. He ran inside and hid under his bed with a younger sibling.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call 911 or Allegheny County Police.
Just days ago, the younger Nolen was shot and wounded in Pittsburgh's Manchester neighborhood.
