Since then, police have been interviewing witnesses and searching for the hit-and-run driver.

Chief Inspector Scott Small says, "She was hit with such impact it caused her body to travel about 200 feet north after being struck."

The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. last night.

Witnesses tell police Jackson was walking with the green light when she was struck. Her body rolled onto the hood of the vehicle.

"When she was hit the impact caused her to come out of her footwear. Both of her slippers are still on the highway. Her cell phone, which was in her hand, is broken. The earrings she was wearing were actually torn from her ears."

Witnesses say the vehicle was traveling more than 40 MPH over the speed limit.

Police say it is only a matter of time before they find the driver.

"They are going to get caught. We have a description of the vehicle. We have physical evidence. We have witnesses," Small says.
