World Trade Center Beam Makes It Way To Kennedy Space Center Via Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A beam from the World Trade Center is being transported to Florida, via the Philadelphia International Airport.
It's destination: The Kennedy Space Station's 9/11 Memorial.
American Airlines is taking the 2,000 pound beam from Philadelphia to Miami International Airport, where it will be taken by truck to the Kennedy Space Center. Kevin Smith, president of Transport Workers Union Local 525 which represents firefighters at KSC, explains why this is so important.
"I think all firefighters have a connection with 9/11 whether you are in one state or another. And I think in almost every fire house there is some sort of tribute to 9/11," said Smith.
Leonard Smack is on the executive board of Local 525 at Philadelphia International.
"It means a lot to all of us really, it's going to become a part of history, especially to the firefighters who lost so much," said Smack.
The beam will be placed at the Kennedy Space Center Memorial for its Sept. 11 ceremony.
