Workers, Customers Bid Farewell To Atlantic City's Revel Casino

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (CBS) – As the sun rose in Atlantic City, it was sunset for Revel's time on the boardwalk.
And early Tuesday morning, some of the casino's most loyal customers came to say goodbye.
"Pretty sad, but we came back here because we come here once a week, and it's our favorite place," said Jason Mastrs.
Many guests stayed until closing, but in this cellphone video, you can see that much of the action on the gaming floor had already cleared out.
Then, at 6 a.m., Revel made it official, chaining the casino's entrance shut and ending the business' short two-year history.
"It's really incredible. I had a great time here. The beach club was fun, too," said Ruth Fennimore, who visited the casino before it closed.
In those two years, Revel Casino and Resort never made a profit and filed for bankruptcy twice.
Still, Atlantic City's mayor says it's about finding the right buyer and management, adding that there are already several interested parties.
"It's a big piece of property. It's a lot of square footage. Pretty much for anywhere in the United States, for that square footage, you can't build it for what you can buy it [for] here," explained Mayor Don Guardian.
"I still have hope and faith in this city, and I hope it turns around," said Tom Still, who also visited Revel before it closed.
In the meantime, as the last workers close up shop, flowers mark the loss here.
Three-thousand more employees now find themselves looking for new jobs, joining the thousands of others in the Atlantic City casino industry who have already been left jobless.
