Work To Begin Within A Week On Phillies Mural
By Mike DeNardo
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Remember that Phillies mural announced three years ago (see related story)? It's finally going up.
Within a week, site work will begin on a seven-story wall at 24th and Walnut where a Phillies mural will go, says Phillies marketing director Michael Harris.
"Scaffolding will go up. Some of the foliage in front of the building will start to be taken down. They'll start to prep the wall and prepare it for the installation."
The project was announced in September 2011, but safety and legal negotiations among the building's owner, the Mural Arts Program, and CSX (which owns the rail tracks next to the building) delayed the prep work until now. Harris says the mural depicting Phillies greats including Mike Schmidt and Brad Lidge (and a few surprise additions) should be finished by late September.
