Wife Shot, Killed In Olney During Domestic Dispute, Husband In Custody, Police Say

PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) - Philadelphia police say a domestic dispute at a home in the city's Olney section ended with a 69-year-old man fatally shooting his wife. It happened just after 11 p.m. Sunday on the 5000 block of 7th Street.

Officers found 68-year-old Marlita Ann Smith shot in the chest. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Authorities say her husband was the only other person home at the time.

"The 69-year-old husband remained on the scene. He was taken into custody as a possible suspect for this shooting, and he was transported to homicide. He is being interviewed by homicide detectives," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

The woman's husband was taken into custody. But it wasn't clear Monday what charges he was facing.

Police say they found a gun at the scene.

No other injuries were reported in the shooting.
