Woman shot, killed by roommate in South Philadelphia apartment, police say

A woman is in custody in connection with a shooting that left another woman dead in South Philadelphia, police say.

Authorities said the shooting happened shortly after 4:30 p.m. in a second-floor apartment on the 2600 block of South 9th Street, near Shunk Street.

Inspector D F Pace said as officers entered the apartment they found a woman with multiple stab wounds and a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was pronounced dead just before 4:45 p.m. A gun and a knife were recovered at the scene.

A 30-year-old woman is in custody in connection with the homicide, Pace said.

It is unclear what led up to the shooting but police believe the two women were roommates.
