Woman Shot, Killed When Man Tries To Rob Lyft Passengers

TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) —The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office says a New Jersey woman was killed when a man tried to rob her and two others while they were taking a Lyft from North Jersey to Trenton.

Authorities say when the vehicle was stopped on the first block of Mechanics Avenue, an armed man forced his way into the back of the vehicle and tried to rob the occupants.

Officials say they were able to fight him off, but 27-year-old Amber Dudley was shot in the torso during the struggle. The driver pulled off and the man fell from the vehicle.

The Lyft driver drove to the East Precinct for Trenton Police to ask seek help.

Authorities say Dudley later died at the hospital. Dudley's younger sister set up a GoFundMe Page to cover funeral costs and wrote "our family is devastated by this loss that was reported to us on my mom's birthday at 1:00 a.m."

There is no suspect description at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office or Trenton Police.
