Woman Found Shot Behind Philadelphia Elementary School

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Police say a woman was found shot and critically injured behind a north Philadelphia elementary school.

A police spokeswoman said two people walking near the John Hartrantf Elementary School just before 11 p.m. Friday saw the woman lying on the ground in the rear alleyway of the school with a small handgun near her head.

The witnesses said they ran to contact police, and when they returned they saw an unknown male who they think may live on the same block as the woman. Both witnesses said they noticed that the gun seen earlier was missing.

The 26-year-old woman was taken to Temple University Hospital, where she was treated for a gunshot wound to the head and listed in critical condition. Police haven't reported any arrests in the case.
