Woman Creates Series Of Workouts For The Visually Impaired

By Jim Melwert

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A visually impaired woman from Doylestown, frustrated at not being able to follow along with exercise videos, has created a series of workouts for the visually impaired.

Mel Scott isn't completely blind, but a degenerative disease has reduced her vision to where she can no longer read or watch TV. So following along with most exercise videos became an exercise in futility:

"You know, 'Watch me, make sure you're positioned correctly in front of the TV,' and then they would say, 'Do ten of these.' And I'm thinking, 'Ten of what?'"

So she started a company called BlindAlive producing Eyes-Free Fitness.

"Everything is well described, so you don't have to have anyone help you."

She adds, "It's very liberating, and it makes you feel good. And sighted people can do it too, it's not just for blind people, anybody can do it."
