Woman Accused Of Stabbing Social Worker In Camden, NJ Charged With Attempted Murder
CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — The monitor appointed to oversee New Jersey's child-welfare system says she is waiting to see how the state responds to the stabbing of a caseworker just days after changes in the security system for the state Department of Children and Families.
The Camden County Prosecutor's Office says 29-year-old caseworker Leah Coleman was stabbed shortly after 1 p.m. Monday in a common area in a Camden office building. She was in critical but stable condition as of Tuesday morning.
Authorities say 30-year-old Taisha Edwards has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons offenses. She's being held on bail of $500,000.
Judith Meltzer, who has been monitoring progress of the department, says an incident like this could make it harder to recruit and keep caseworkers.
