Wolf: I Wont 'Cave' On My Tax And Budget Proposals

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- Appearing on Pittsburgh sister station KDKA this morning, Governor Wolf remained defiant in the wake of last week's vote in the state House on his tax proposals, which were defeated by 54 votes. Pennsylvania has now been without a budget for almost three and a half months.

House Republican leaders say the tax vote definitively showed there is not enough support for Governor Wolf's proposals. But Wolf again chose to focus on the fact that he got 73 Democratic votes, even though nine Democrats jumped ship and joined all Republicans in voting against the proposals.

Wolf said he won't budge on his budget stance.

"And I think there's a dawning awareness that I'm not going to cave on this. I can't cave on this. I'm one of 12.7 million Pennsylvanians, and we've got to have our state on a sound financial basis, that's all."

The governor, meanwhile, said he's willing to have a "conversation" about expansion of gambling, something raised by Republican legislative leaders after last week's tax vote, but Wolf says it won't solve the state's budget problems.
