With Companies Rolling In, Camden Launches Job Training

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey is launching the first of several waves of job training programs to prepare Camden workers as more companies move into the city.

The state Department of Labor announced the first program Tuesday. It will train 20 low-skilled workers for possible jobs at three companies.

The firms are Ravitz Family Markets, European Metal Recycling (EMR) and COMARCO Products.

The state says the $10,000 program to be run by Camden County College represents the first part of a $500,000 job-training commitment in the city. The plans include a $150,000 program to prepare residents for construction-industry apprenticeships.

Deputy Labor Commissioner Aaron Fitchner says more specialized programs will be established along with firms.
