Which Tree Is Best For Your Property? PECO Offers Advice For Arbor Day

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Today is Arbor Day and PECO is doing its part by encouraging utility customers to consider which tree is best to plant, especially if you have power lines above your property.
Spring means time to consider new landscaping projects, including planting new trees. But PECO's Greg Smore says it's more than just buying the tree that you like.
"Some of the things that you want to think about; what is the size of the tree going to look like when it's fully mature? How wide is it gonna be? How tall is it gonna be?" he says.
Smore says this is especially important if power lines cross your property. He says branches and trees falling on power lines cause one-third of all power outages.
PECO encourages home-owners to plant flowering trees like dogwoods and crabapples because they grow to less than 25-feet tall.
