What's Cooking on 1060: Three Philly Foodie Events in One Week

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (CBS) -- The fourth annual "Vendy" Awards take place on Saturday, and the food truck vendors will be assembled for this food competition at Penn Treaty Park.

"It's the best of the best," says Vendys organizing committee member Joanne Jordan (top photo).  "We call them 'streetside chefs,' and they all compete for what's called the Vendy Cup.  And it's a very coveted award."

Penn Treaty Park is nestled along the Delaware River in Fishtown.  Advance tickets are $55 for adults, $30 for kids.  The event takes place from 2 to 6pm.

Also on Saturday, the first-ever "Philly Veg Fest" takes place under the Shambles in Headhouse Square.

"There has never been a better time to be a vegetarian or a vegan in Philadelphia," says organizer Lydia Chawdry of The Humane League (below), "and we want to demonstrate that with this daylong celebration of veg food."

Chawdry says there will be demonstrations and food samples, and they hope to attract not only area vegans and vegetarians.

"Hopefully, we'll get lots of meat eaters and just veg-curious folks," she tells What's Cooking.  The event is free.

And on Thursday, June 19th, the Philadelphia-based Food Trust hosts another Night Market -- this one in the West Oak Lane neighborhood.

"This Night Market is really exciting for us because it's a little bit off the beaten path," says manager Diana Minkus.  "The main intersection is going to be 72nd and Ogontz Avenues."
