What's Cooking On 1060: Speakeasy, Fun Burgers, and a Tiki Bar

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (CBS) -- It's a new bar in Northern Liberties with a "speakeasy" feel.  Bourbon and Branch has opened at 705 North Second Street (at 2nd and Fairmount).

Bar manager Righteous Jolly (yes, it's his real name) describes the drinks, the food, and the decor:

"The theme is Old World, New World comfort food," he tells What's Cooking.  "Artesian, delicious cocktails.  Not a speakeasy, in that anyone can come, and it's not a club, but the cocktails are certainly speakeasyesque in that they're composed with fresh, organic, local ingredients.  But we are called Bourbon and Branch; we are bourbon heavy, we are whiskey heavy."

Speaking of Northern Liberties, PYT, the restaurant with the crazy burgers, is getting ready to begin franchising along the I-95 corridor.

"We are pairing up with a really awesome company called Fransmart, and we are going to be franchising PYT," says co-owner Sarah Brown ( bel0w).  "Over the course of the next couple of years you're going to be seeing a lot of PYTs around the country."

Meanwhile, she and her business partner are working on a new restaurant at 1444 Frankford Avenue.

"We're going to be opening up this spring," she says.  "It's called The Yachtsman, which is a tiki bar.  Researching tiki bars around the country has been a really fun project -- it's definitely our passion project right now!  It's a great outlet for creativity and just a fun atmosphere."
