What's Cooking On 1060: Donuts, Pie, and Japanese Fondue

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (CBS) -- A new Japanese fondue restaurant, Simply Shabu, has opened in the heart of Chinatown, at 1023 Cherry Street.
"Shabu comes from the Japanese term swish-swish," says owner Dennis Tuan (top photo). "The idea is like it's an Asian hot-pot or fondue style, where you're cooking all the raw veggies and meats in a flavored broth, which then you use for various dipping sauces that we offer."

Magpie, the artisan pie boutique at 1622 South Street, is getting into the Valentine's Day spirit with a "Sweetie Pie Couples Pie-Making Class" on Thursday, February 13th.
"We thought it would be so super fun to do a couples' class, because couples do come to our regular pie classes and they have so much fun together," says owner Holly Ricciardi (below). " So we thought, well, why not make it a couples-only?"

And Federal Donuts, famous for its fried chicken and gourmet donuts, opens two new shops over the next two months. Felicia D'Ambrosio, a partner (below), notes that one of the new locations will even have a parking lot.
"We have two shops in the works," she tells What's Cooking. "The first one, at 3428 Sansom Street in University City, is going to open this month."
And the one after that?
"At 701 Fairmount (Avenue). That one will be open in March, and that one will be our first location with a lot of seating."
And a parking lot!
